Open Enrollment is Your Chance to Add Value to Client Relationships

One of the best ways to help your clients manage health care costs — and avoid costly mistakes — is urging them to review their supplemental Medicare health insurance and prescription drug coverage during the upcoming open enrollment. We’ve made it simple for you.

Here’s how.

Dates To Know

Gear up for open enrollment:
Oct. 15 – Dec. 7
What is it? When beneficiaries have a chance to make changes to their Medicare Advantage or Medicare prescription drug coverage for the following year.
Why should you know about it? Premiums, plans and drug formularies can change each year, so it’s good practice to direct clients to review their Medigap, Medicare Advantage, and prescription drug coverage annually to make sure they aren’t overpaying. If they have further questions, suggest they call Medicare BackOffice or give them our “Guide to Medicare: Helping You Navigate the Medicare Maze.”

You’re currently in the “Lock-in Period”:
Feb. 15 – Oct. 14
"Lock-in Period"
What is it? When most Medicare beneficiaries are unable to change their underlying Medicare coverage, unless they have a Special Election Period.
Why should you know about it? If clients ask about changing their Medicare plans now, it’s important to know that generally they will not be able to do so without underwriting. If they have further questions, suggest they call Medicare BackOffice or give them our “Guide to Medicare: Helping You Navigate the Medicare Maze.”
