Everyone's Initial Enrollment Period is different, because it depends on their birthdays. People become eligible for Medicare at age 65 and have a seven-month window surrounding their 65th birthday to sign up for Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) and\or Part B (medical insurance). You can use this helpful chart in the Medicare BackOffice "Guide to Medicare: Helping You Navigate the Medicare Maze" to help your clients identify their Initial Enrollment Period. It's also important for you to be aware of late-enrollment penalties that can be assessed if your clients don't sign up during their Initial Enrollment Period in Part B and Part D Prescription Drug coverage.
