How Medicare Smart Are You?

How long do your clients turning 65 have to enroll in Original Medicare (Part A and Part B)?

The answer is “B”.

When someone is first eligible for Medicare, they have a seven-month Initial Enrollment Period to sign up for Part A (hospital insurance) and/or Part B (medical insurance). It starts three months before they turn 65, includes their birth month and concludes three months after the month they turn 65. Once their Initial Enrollment Period ends, they may have the chance to sign up for Medicare during a Special Enrollment Period (SEP).
