How Medicare Smart Are You?

True or False: When you buy a Medicare Supplement plan, you are still enrolled in Original Medicare (Part A and Part B.)

The answer is “True.”

Medicare Supplement plans do not replace Original Medicare (Part A and Part B). They are an additional coverage to help pay the co-payments, co-insurance and deductibles that Original Medicare doesn’t pay. Medicare Advantage plans, however, do take the place of Medicare Parts A and B and usually include Part D Prescription Drug coverage. When a client enrolls in a Medicare Advantage plan, he or she moves completely into a private health insurance plan.
